From Baroque to the Blues

The Stoughton Chamber Singers, directed by John Beutel, will present a spring concert  entitled “From Baroque to the Blues” on Friday, June 9 at Christ Lutheran Church, 700 County Highway B, Stoughton, and on Wednesday, June 14, at the Historic Brown Church, (intersection of Hwys 138 and 59) in Cooksville. Both concerts begin at 7:30 pm.

 

The first half of the concert will be a presentation of “Gloria” by 17th century composer Antonio Vivaldi. The second half will include pieces by Randall Stroope (using text by poet Robert Frost), Morten Lauridsen, “Fats” Waller, and Billy Joel’s popular “And So It Goes.”  Closing the program will be a swingin’ rendition of WC Handy's, “St. Louis Blues” arranged by Kirby Shaw.  Nadine Kerl is the piano accompanist for the group.


There are no tickets.  A free will donation will be taken at the intermission of the performance.

The Stoughton Chamber Singers, directed by John Beutel, perform music from a variety of periods and genres. The group has approximately 25 members, who are selected by audition.

 The group performs usually in and around Stoughton, WI with concerts in mid to late fall and in late spring/early summer of each year.  Some of the venues include: Stoughton Opera House, Stoughton Village Players, and Cooksville's Historic Church. The group occasionally performs at other venues and events in the Stoughton and Madison areas upon request.
